Professor Elaine Chiu spoke to numerous audiences as part of May events celebrating Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. In her keynote address at the “Empowered Asian American Leadership” program sponsored by the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission of the NYS Unified Court System, she focused on her recent study of attacks on Asian New Yorkers in 2021 and her advocacy efforts on behalf of hate crime survivors. Here is a link to a video of the entire program. Professor Chiu is also presenting to law firms and prosecutors’ offices throughout New York on related topics.

Earlier in March, Professor Chiu delivered an academic presentation on her scholarly work-in-progress, “The Model Minority Victim,” at the Center for Asian Americans and the Law at Fordham Law School. In April, she guest-taught in an exciting new course at St. John’s Law, “Asian Americans and the Law,” offered by newly elected Judge Karen Lin of Queens Civil Court.
