Professor Rosemary Salomone completed a book tour in the United Kingdom promoting the paperback edition of her award-winning book, The Rise of English: Global Politics and the Power of Language (Oxford University Press, 2021; paperback 2024).
The updated Preface looks back over the previous two years noting the strategic use of English by world leaders as a tool of diplomacy; nationalism and concerns over migration increasingly driving language policies, regulations and laws across the globe; the tension between national identity and labor demands creating political wavering in northern Europe; and the failure of legislative and judicial constraints to stem the tide of English in European universities.
Professor Salomone gave a presentation to students and faculty at Oxford University, was interviewed in a live-streamed meeting at University College London, and by Monocle Radio; and was a featured speaker at the Stratford-upon-Avon Literary Festival.
