Professor Robin Boyle Laisure was interviewed by Dr. Steven Hassan in a podcast titled, “Using the Law to Criminalize Cult Leaders.” Dr. Hassan is an internationally renowned expert on cults and undue influence. In the interview, Dr. Hassan and Professor Boyle discussed how cults use non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to silence individuals even after they leave the group. They warned listeners that, before signing any document, including an NDA, they should seek guidance from a lawyer. They also discussed laws pertaining to undue influence and human trafficking.

Professor Boyle’s forthcoming book addresses human trafficking and cults, warns of their dangers, and provides many strategies for handling destructive groups. It is written for parents to help teach children how to navigate the world with confidence and yet with awareness: Taken No More: Protecting Your Children Against Traffickers and Cults (Bloomsbury, forthcoming 2025). It also includes suggestions for policymakers and mental health professionals.
