From December 14-22, 2024, Professor John Q. Barrett was part of an Academic Exchange mission to Israel.

Academic Exchange (AE) is a private, non-partisan program that seeks to deepen understanding within the international academic community of Israel and the Middle East.

This mission was comprised primarily of law and political science professors and journalists who teach and write about legal issues pertaining to Israel and war. The mission visited Tel Aviv (including Israeli Defense Forces headquarters there), the Kerem Shalom freight crossing point on the Israel-Gaza border, the kibbutz Nir Oz and Nova music festival October 7 massacre sites, and Jerusalem. The group had extensive meetings with academics (historians, political scientists, law professors, and others), government officials, military officers, lawyers, journalists, non-government organization officials, and others, representing a range of experiences and perspectives.
