Professor Elaine Chiu had an outstanding final week of this year’s Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month.
On Tuesday, May 27th, Professor Chiu shared a documentary entitled “Voices Against Anti-Asian Hate,” produced by the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY), with the St. John’s Law community. Faculty, students, and alumni came out to hear from civil rights leader Jennifer Wu, who helped countless families deal with anti-Asian hate, and from alumna and adjunct professor Hannah Yu, who serves as the Chief of the Hate Crimes Unit at the Manhattan DA’s Office.
On Thursday, May 29th, Professor Chiu received the Women’s Leadership Award from AABANY at their annual gala and celebrated with numerous alumni and students.
Then, on Friday, May 30th, Professor Chiu moderated a panel on behalf of NYS Unified Court System’s Anti-Asian Hate Working Group and led a conversation with Vichal Kumar of Partners for Justice, Sgt. Jacqueline Catalano of NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force, and ADA Hannah Yu.
Finally, Professor Chiu’s article, The Model Minority Victim, is now published in the Santa Clara Law Review and can be found here at this link.
