Professor Rosemary Salomone was featured in the July 21 issue of WalletHub among a panel of experts invited to share their thoughts on what factors make for the best and worst school systems.
Beyond per-pupil spending, trained teachers, school infrastructure, and parental involvement, Professor Salomone emphasized the importance of seeing the school as part of a community. She especially noted that for children raised in poverty or in dysfunctional or overburdened homes, the school can provide the positive role models, sense of emotional security, and high aspirations these students sorely need. She noted the high rate of academic success in public single-sex schools in poor communities that she has observed in her years of supporting their legal status.
