Professor Ashley B. Armstrong presented at the Legal Writing Institute’s (LWI) New Teacher Training Bootcamp on July 23rd, hosted virtually by Stetson University’s Institute for the Advancement of Legal Communication. Designed to “equip new legal writing teachers with ideas, mentorship, and teaching tools,” the Bootcamp offers foundational support for those entering the field. Professor Armstrong participated in a panel discussion on best practices for excelling as a teacher, scholar, and mentor in the discipline. She has been an active contributor to the Bootcamp series since its inception, presenting at several workshops and helping to plan the inaugural program in Summer 2023. In addition to the summer session, LWI also offers a winter Bootcamp 2.0, which focuses on second-semester strategies for teaching persuasive legal writing.
Additionally, Professor Armstrong recently completed her third summer teaching incoming law students through the New York Legal Education Opportunity (NY LEO) Program, administered by the New York State Judicial Institute. The program is dedicated to supporting students from groups traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession, equipping them with the tools needed to thrive in law school. Professor Armstrong developed and taught an intensive five-week legal writing course to help students develop essential skills, and she also spearheaded the NY LEO moot court program.
