
Professor Rosemary Salomone was extensively quoted in an article published September 2nd in University World News on the challenges facing Morocco as it implements Framework Law No. 51.17 adopted in 2019. A central pillar of the law is the concept of “linguistic engineering” aimed at expanding the use of Arabic as an academic language in higher education while preserving the country’s multilingual tradition.
Professor Salomone addressed in depth the evolution of language laws and policies in Morocco and the ongoing debate over the Arabization of education in her book The Rise of English: Global Politics and the Power of Language (Oxford University Press, 2021; pbk 2024).
