
On September 13, 2025, Professor John Q. Barrett, a trustee of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, assisted in presenting, at a ceremony in Manhattan, the Roosevelt Institute’s 2025 “Freedom from Fear” medal to Dr. Simon Adams, President and CEO of the Center for Victims of Torture. Dr. Adams accepted the medal on behalf of the organization.
The Roosevelt Institute’s Four Freedoms Awards are named after the freedoms that President Franklin D. Roosevelt articulated in his 1941 State of the Union Address: freedom of speech and expression; freedom of worship; freedom from want; and freedom from fear.
The 2025 Four Freedoms Laureates were:
- Freedom of Speech and Expression award: Teen Vogue
- Freedom of Worship award: Dr. Jacqui Lewis, Senior Minister, Middle Collegiate Church
- Freedom from Want award: World Central Kitchen
- Freedom from Fear award: Center for Victims of Torture
- Freedom Medal: Darren Walker, President, Ford Foundation.
