Professor Robin Boyle-Laisure’s book, Taken No More: Protect Your Children Against Traffickers and Cults (Bloomsbury) is now published.
Sarah Edmondson, author of Scarred: The True Story of How I Escaped NXIVM, the Cult That Bound My Life, and host of “A Little Bit Culty” podcast, described the book as, “a vital guide that unveils the chilling parallels between cults and human trafficking, offering practical strategies to protect children from coercive control in our tech-driven world. . . . A must-read for safeguarding our kids!”
Caryl M. Stern, former president & CEO, UNICEF USA, stated, “The only way to protect children from the horrors of trafficking and cults, is to educate ourselves so that we can recognize it when we see it and teach our children what they need to know to protect themselves. This book provides the tools to do just that. Every child deserves a real childhood and as adults, it is our job to ensure they get it.”
Steve Eichel, a forensic psychologist, in his review described the book as, “There is no other book that provides such specific advice tied to a child’s, adolescent’s, or young adult’s developmental level for both recognizing manipulators and coping with exposure to cultic or trafficking processes.”
He further explained,
Boyle-Laisure’s chapter “How Not to Conduct Raids” should be mandatory reading for anyone in law enforcement. Having worked with over half a dozen attorneys on cult-related cases, her chapter on “What Lawyers Can Do” is also important, with her most important advice being the need to address potential client (pre-cult/pre-trafficking) vulnerability and remove it from the argument. This vulnerability, which can be akin to victim-blaming in rape cases, has been a major sticking point in cases in which I have been involved.
