Professor Robin Boyle-Laisure presented at a Continuing Legal Education Program on the topic of “Crafting Clear and Concise Legal Documents: A Deeper Look at Counterarguments.” The on-demand program aired on Monday, Dec. 22, 2025, hosted by LawPracticeCLE. Joining her were Professors Christine Coughlin (Wake Forest) and Sandy Patrick (Lewis and Clark). They drew upon a chapter on counterarguments from the second edition of their book, Becoming a Legal Writer: A Workbook with Explanations to Develop Objective Legal Analysis and Writing Skills, which was published last summer by Carolina Academic Press.
Over the winter break, Professor Robin Boyle-Laisure was interviewed for the podcast, Determination, Deliberation, and Dragons, a creative writing podcast hosted by a current third-year St. John’s Law student, Peter Markotsis ’26. He launched the podcast with other writers as a means to engage authors to discuss their books. He asked Professor Boyle-Laisure, who is currently earning a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Adelphi University, what inspired her to pursue the degree. She explained that she was inspired to pursue an M.F.A. after attending Adelphi’s inaugural Writers and Readers Festival in 2024.
In comparing the processes of producing legal writing with creative writing, Professor Boyle-Laisure said that they share similarities, such as focusing on the details of every sentence; however, they differ in that there is no template, no IRAC, for creative writing, which makes it uniquely challenging. In answering a question about why she writes, Professor Boyle-Laisure explained that it gives her immense pleasure to start with a germ of an idea and to form a cohesive piece from it. She also enjoys collaborating with co-authors and sharing their published workbooks with her legal writing students.
Professor Boyle-Laisure’s most recently published book, Taken No More: Protect Your Children Against Traffickers and Cults (Bloomsbury 2025), was highlighted in an article printed in The Garden City News on Jan. 2, 2026. The article describes how the book includes advice for parents, teachers, mental health professionals, lawyers, and law enforcement. She is quoted as saying, “The book includes a chapter about our digital age and how it is bringing unprecedented challenges to child-rearing.” Book-launch events are scheduled for January.
