Professor Robin Boyle-Laisure, a Garden City resident, presented a forum at the Garden City Community Church on Sunday, March 8th. She highlighted material from her recently published book, Taken No More: Protect Your Children Against Traffickers and Cults, published by Bloomsbury last November.
The book represents her research and publications spanning nearly three decades. Her first speaking engagement on this topic was at an international conference in Philadelphia in 1998, when she suggested civil and criminal remedies for those leaving cults. Since then, she has frequently presented at conferences—both domestically and abroad.
At the GCCC Forum, Professor Boyle-Laisure addressed laws involving cults and human trafficking and how both enterprises groom and manipulate their victims. She warned that online predatory behavior is of critical concern. She suggested that parents and caregivers find guidance in the chapter titled “Raising a Savvy Child,” in which she outlines how to speak with one’s child as they progress through stages of development. “In addition to parents and caregivers, mental health professionals, law enforcement, and teachers would also benefit from the advice and resources provided in the book,” said Professor Boyle-Laisure.
On March 6th, the Garden City News published an article announcing the church forum, found here.
