Prof. Robin Boyle-Laisure also gave two panel presentations at the
International Congress of Law and Mental Health conference held at the L’Université du Québec à Montréal. On June 29th, she presented “Undoing Undue Influence and a Proposed Model.” She advocated eliminating the vulnerability element of undue influence and instead focusing on the influencer’s bad acts. She based her talk on her published article, Undoing Undue Influence: How the Doctrine Can Avoid Judicial Subjectivity by Omitting the Vulnerability Element, 47(1) Am. J. Trial Advoc. 23 (Fall 2023).
On June 30th, in her presentation on “Online Predators, Coercive Behavior, and Status of Law in the US,” she noted the prevalence of online predatory behavior and the effects on children and senior citizens, and how the laws in the United States compare with those in other countries. She advocated for stricter U.S. laws to hold platforms accountable.
